By Megan Gorgone

We love Brooks for their shoe line up with every model hitting the fit, feel, and function criteria out of the park.  But did you know that Brooks is also an expert brand for knowing how to effectively combine looks and features into one great fall/winter line up?  Brooks Running always makes the runner & walker feel the company’s tag line, “Run Happy!” Our team reviewed these items and share their thoughts!

Our stores carry Brooks apparel in both our women’s and men’s sections.  The apparel fits accurately, there has not been much feedback of having to size up or down.  That’s terrific when shopping for your right size …. as well as with the holidays approaching, it’s a great reliable piece of information for gift buying!

2 in 1 Short: Women’s 3″ &  4″

2020 Brooks Apparel ReviewWe are lucky in Atlanta to be living with the best weather!  Thanks to chilly mornings that warm-up for the day and evening, Claudia is thrilled to have temperatures to continue outdoor running in her favorite Brooks shorts.   It’s a tie for Claudia whether she likes the Fall 3″ 2 in 1 short or the Fall Carbobite 4″ 2 in 1 short better.  Both give a winning feel!

Claudia loves wearing eye-catching colors!  That’s what drew her attention first to the Fall 3″ 2 in 1 short.  The heather beet colored short with the pink liner totally fits Claudia’s bright personality. She finds the shorts very comfortable when running.  They fit perfectly on her waistline with a nice wide waistband and allows her full mobility.  Nothing is tight or restrictive in this piece.  There is an inside pocket large enough for a phone. This feature works well for walkers but when running, the shorts start falling from the waist.

Claudia also has the Reflective Carbonite 3″ 2in1 short in Black with a yellow liner.  She barely even feels the shorts on, they are so light and comfortable (even lighter than the 3″ shorts above)!  The fabrics are so soft and it’s a winning color combination. Black of course goes with everything, but yellow is a fun pop-out color.

The reflective safety feature of this short is so important as our daylight hours shorten.  3M Scotchlite Carbon Black Stretch Reflectivity is placed on the front & back of each side panel to bounce off light alerting drivers that you are present.

Both shorts have an inner attached mesh liner.   This not only adds a fun dash of color but also holds well to the leg to prevent chafing and wick away sweat.  Both shorts also offer multiple stash pockets for your lightweight items.

2 in 1 Short: Men’s 7″

2020 Brooks Apparel Review

Jason has been running with the Sherpa 2 in 1 7” short. The short has a lot of positives, but a few drawbacks worth mentioning, but they may be specific to Jason’s experience. The material is nice and light, especially for a longer short. Also, there are also a lot of pockets (side drop, rear zipper, liner) which can be great for longer runs/trail runs/unsupported runs.
However, there are a few drawbacks. The shorts run a little large, Jason is a textbook Medium and the medium size was too big on him, The liner fit isn’t as secure as preferred, though that most likely is attributed to the short being a little large in size. Overall, Jason still recommends the Sherpa 7″ short due to the quality of the materials and the usefulness of the pockets.  Sizing down would be a great path to take on this piece.

Notch Thermal Long Sleeve

Jason also wears Brooks Notch Thermal Long-sleeve, and is a huge fan! The fabric is nice and soft, and there’s a great warmth to weight ratio. The sleeves can also be looped around the thumbs, giving full coverage to keep warmth in. The fit is spot on, if maybe a little generous, to give the option to layer on cooler days. A unique feature is a key pocket, which is on the front by the left shoulder, which helps minimizes bounce. A key fob fits perfectly. Overall Jason says, “This is an essential transitional piece that I cannot recommend enough!”.

GreenLight Tights

Brooks Apparel Review

Greenlight Tights are Carla’s go-to apparel piece.  A long-time favorite of many Brooks’ shoppers, these are perfect for the gym (squat tested!), yoga, and running.  They stay in place, run true to size, and are super comfy.  The Greenlight tights are the perfect weight for spring/fall/winter weather.

One of Carla’s favorite features on the tight is the side pocket.  It is perfect for your phone or nutrition. She never notices that she has anything in the pocket, it’s so flat and has the right compression to hold your items tight to you with no bounce.  The tights have nice detailing down the side and ladies will feel very cute and comfortable wearing them for errands when paired with a longish top.

Shield Hybrid Vest

Carla, and many of us (female or male), agree the perfect sign of a great piece of running apparel is it being un-noticeable.  That describes the Shield Hybrid Vest perfectly.  A great layering piece without feeling bulky on the run or walk.  The vest runs true to size and has two convenient zipper pockets on each side so you don’t lose anything.
