In Atlanta, there are hundreds of wonderfully-suited places to run and/or walk, regardless of your personal preferences for surroundings, distance and location. There is no such thing as a totally complete listing of all the great places to strut your stuff in our fantastic city. As such, the following series of directions are, simply, indications of how to get to some of the city's most popular and populous running and walking locations.

Azalea Drive/Riverside Park/Vickery Creek

Take GA 400 to Northridge Exit. Turn left (if coming from 400 South) or right (if coming from 400 North) onto Northridge Drive. Follow Northridge until it intersects with Roswell Road. Turn right onto Roswell Road and follow until it crosses the Chattahoochee River. Upon crossing the river, turn left to access Azalea Drive (parking will be about .5 miles down on the left), or turn right onto Riverside Drive to access Riverside Park (parking will be about .5 miles down on the right), or turn right on to Riverside Drive to access Vickery Creek trailhead (trail parking is on left immediately after turning onto Riverside Drive.)

Chastain Park

Take I-285 to Roswell Road (exit #25). Go south on Roswell Sound to West Wieuca Road and turn right. Chastain Park is less than a mile ahead, after the intersection with Lake Forrest Drive.

Cochran Shoals, Sope Creek and Powers Island

From Downtown: Take I-285 to Powers Ferry Road/Northside Drive/New Northside Drive (exit 22) and go north on New Northside Drive to Interstate North Parkway. If you are coming from the East, the exit will deposit you on Interstate North Parkway. Cross Powers Ferry Road and follow the signs to the National Recreation Area. If you are coming from the West, follow the signs to New Northside Drive, which crosses over the interstate and leads you to Interstate Parkway and the park entrance. From Marietta: Follow Highway 120 (Roswell Road) East until in intersects with Johnson Ferry Road. Turn right at Johnson Ferry Road and follow South to Columns Drive. Turn right onto Columns Drive and follow 2.5 miles to parking lot at trailhead. As an alternative, turn right from Johnson Ferry Road onto Paper Mill Road (prior to Columns Drive). Follow Paper Mill approximately 1.75 miles until you reach Sope Creek park entrance on your left.

Gold Branch Unit, Chattahoochee NRA

Take GA 400 North to I-285 West (Exit 4B). Exit at Riverside Drive (Exit 24), turn right to go north and follow Riverside until it intersects with Johnson Ferry Road. Turn left on Johnson Ferry Road. Turn right onto Lower Roswell Road. Gold Branch sign will be on right after approximately 1.5 miles.

Kennesaw Mountain

Take I-75 to Barrett Parkway (exit #269). Go south on Barrett Parkway for less than 2 miles, past U.S. 41/Cobb Parkway, to Old U.S. 41. Follow signs to park.

Peachtree Battle Avenue/Atlanta Memorial Park

Take GA 400 to the Buckhead (exit #2). Go west to Piedmont Road and turn left. At the intersection with Peachtree Road, turn right on Peachtree and go approximately 2.5 miles to Peachtree Battle. Turn right.

Piedmont Park

Take I-75/85 to Tenth Street (exit #250). Go west for about a mile on Tenth to the park.

Silver Comet

Take I-285 to South Cobb Drive (exit #15). On South Cobb Drive, go west to Cooper Lake Road. Turn left on Cooper Lake and proceed less than a mile to Mavell Road. Turn left; the trailhead and parking area is a ½ mile ahead.
