Big Peach Running Co.

What A Great Weekend!!

The spring-like weather of this past weekend was fantastic! Peachy’s spies spotted huge numbers of runners and walkers all over our metro area. So, let’s keep that momentum going, even though it looks like winter is making another appearance. Anyone dedicated to a P.A.L. isn’t going to let a little cold weather keep them indoors!!

What’s happening this coming weekend? We're glad you asked!

Let’s start with the 30th Annual Charles Harris Run For Leukemia 10K taking place Saturday. One of the most popular AJC Peachtree Road Race qualifiers, this fast race starts at Tucker High School, and ends at Shamrock Middle School. Since its inception, the Charles Harris Run has raised over $1,000,000 for leukemia research at Emory University.

In-store registration continues until Weds., 2/24 at 8:00pm at BPRC Marietta and Kennesaw, until 8:00pm Thurs., 2/25 at BPRC Atlanta, and finally until 8:00pm Fri., 2/26 at BPRC Decatur. In addition, if you registered on line and want to pick up your race number in advance, you can do so at BPRC Atlanta from 11-8 on 2/25, and from 11-8 on 2/26 in Decatur. Race day registration begins at 6:00am.

Also this weekend is the fabulous Run For The Son 5K & 10K at Burnt Hickory Baptist Church in Powder Springs. You can also use this race as your Peachtree qualifier, so if you live on the west side of town, here’s your chance! Proceeds for Run For The Son benefit BHBC Student Summer Mission Program and the Eric Petty Memorial Graduation Scholarship Fund. In-store registration continues until 8:00pm, Tues., 2/23 at all 4 BPRC locations.

Race day registration, number and T-shirt pick up start at 6:15 Saturday morning. Post-race fun rounds out the morning, so lace up your shoes and get ready!

As if that wasn’t enough, your may want to clone yourself as you learn of yet another great race Saturday morning: the Run Thru The Forrest 5K at beautiful Brinkley Park in the city of Smyrna. A fundraiser for the Georgia Transplant Foundation, this wonderful event helps Cobb County residents facing expenses associated with an organ transplant.

In-store registration continues at BPRC Marietta & Kennesaw through 8:00pm Weds., 2/24. Open to runners and walkers, the pre-race hot coffee, and a post-race breakfast sure sound like a fun way to start your weekend!

Hold on…we’re not done yet! One more race Saturday morning to get you outside no matter the weather is the Dirty Spokes Thrill In The Hills Half and Full Marathon Trail Race at Ft. Yargo Park in Winder. While in-store registration ended last week, you can still sign up on race morning. So if off-road is your thing, check it out! (By the way, you can register for any and all of the trail races presented by Dirty Spokes at BPRC anytime!)

Then, on Sunday at 1:00pm, why not take a walk for a cause at Chastain Park. We’re talking about the 2.7 mile Merrick’s Walk, started 10 years ago in honor of Merrick Ryan, a 19 year old who died from complications from anorexia. A fundraiser for the Eating Disorder Information Network (EDIN) Merrick’s walk is part of EDIN’s Love Your Body Month community events. In-store registration continues until 8:00pm Tues. 2/23 at all BPRC locations, and begins at noon at Chastain Park on Sunday.
