Want To Reach New Heights?
Peachy’s got some great ways to make that happen!
Looking to heighten your 10K time? The Silver Comet 10K is this coming Saturday the 14th at 8:00am. In-store registration ends Tuesday at all 4 BPRC locations. This gives the race director enough time to get your timing chips ready so you can have your results by 2:00pm on the same day as the race! With Peachtree Road Race registration opening up on line at 7:00 am Sunday, this can’t be beat! You will also have the opportunity to register from 5:00pm-8:00pm at the Five Seasons Brew Pub Prado location on Roswell Rd., and on race day morning. (Please note the fee increases to $35.00 to register at these times.) Registration is limited to 1500, and is rapidly reaching that number, so don’t delay!
What do Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Rainier, Mount Everest, K2 and Downtown Atlanta have in common? They all offer a spectacular vertical climb! What? Downtown Atlanta? You betcha! It’s time to test your legs and lungs with Climb Atlanta taking place on April 18 from 10:00am-1:00pm. This unique event takes you up 50 floors, or 1150 steps at One Ninety One Peachtree Tower! To help raise awareness and funding for lung disease, Climb Atlanta poses a great physical challenge for anyone racing for a specific time, wanting to just reach the finish line, or honoring someone with lung disease. Whatever your motivation or goals, this race is sure to prove to be fun and exhilarating!
Here’s the scoop: in-store registration is now happening at all 4 BPRC locations. Register on Thursdays, save $5.00 off your entry fee, and get a 10% discount on all purchases made when you submit your application! (May not be combined with other discounts or offers.) Early bird registration is $25.00, through April 1, and increases to $50.00 after that. In addition, you must meet a minimum fund raising requirement of $100 to participate, and must be at least 16 years of age. Individuals or teams of 5 or more can join the fun. There’s even a collegiate challenge this year so alumni can climb with school pride for the ultimate bragging rights! Also making things really interesting is the Atlanta Firefighter Challenge taking place after the main event. Stick around and cheer on some of Atlanta’s finest as they climb the 1150 steps in full gear!
To help get things rolling, BPRC is raffling off a $150.00 gift card. Anyone can stop by any BPRC, and make a $5.00 donation for a chance to win! (No purchase necessary, and you do not have to register for Climb Atlanta to participate.) Keep reading Peachy News for updates on this great event, including packet pick up information.
Onward to our next bit of news…Elevate your status as a Good Samaritan by volunteering as a course marshall at the ING Georgia Marathon on March 29. If you’re not entered in the race, consider volunteering for this hometown favorite. With 15,000 participants, volunteers play a very important role in keeping things safe for so many feet on the street. Besides, it’s fun to work a race! If you’ve ever entered a road race of any distance, please consider giving something back to your community. More information can be found at the race website. (By the way, it looks like the ING Georgia Marathon and Half Marathon will most likely reach capacity, so if you haven’t registered yet, don’t wait too long and risk missing out. Of course if you do, there’s always room for more volunteers!)
Next, ratchett up your safety IQ at the Women's Safety Seminar at Kennesaw Mountain, Saturday, March 14 at 11:00am at the Visitor's Center. A few spaces are still available for this important and interesting clinic presented by BPRC and the Parks Department. Speakers will provide information on self-defense, what to do in case of emergency in the park, first aid, and other relevant topics. This seminar is free and open to the public, but space is limited, so please pre-register by calling 770-427-4686, ext. 0.
As we continue your upward mobility, a brief word about the Big Peach 5k on May 2. Of course in-store registration continues at all 4 BPRC locations. Of course you can still download an application and mail it in, or register online at Active.com. Of course we are offering a Nike DriFit T to the first 1700 finishers, and offering a free race entry with a purchase of $75.00 or more of Nike gear. (Registration and purchase must take place at the same time for this to happen.)
What’s new about the Big Peach 5K? Glad you asked! If you’ve never done a 5K, and would like some help training for one, Team In Training has risen to new heights to develop a fun program to make this goal highly achievable! Geared towards corporate teams or a team of friends looking to challenge one another, this program will get you from your sofa to the Big Peach 5K with great coaching, comraderie, and fun! Some fund raising is required, so for more information, please check out the Corporate Wellness and Team Building page on TNT’s website.
