Tales Of Trails…And Other Stories

Whether you favor trails or roads for your P.A.L. (Pedestrian Active Lifestyle), we’ve got something fun for you! If you’re a “roadie,” or you like to play on trails AND roads, be sure to read on past the details of our upcoming trail run. (You might want to grab your favorite hydration beverage, as we've got a lot to cover!)

Back by popular demand, it’s the BPRC Subaru Trail Running Series! Our first installment takes us to Gold Branch, a fabulous hidden nugget within the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, on Saturday, Jan. 31. We’re so jazzed about the return of our Trail Running Series that we’re leading it off with a “Tales of Trails” clinic! By the way, just because we call this our “Trail Running Series” doesn’t mean we exclude walkers! This is a great time for Day Hikers too!

Here’s how it works: If you would like to participate in the clinic, arrive at BPRC Marietta, 1062 Johnson Ferry Road at 7:00am, and learn about:
- Why Atlanta is the best city east of the Mississippi for trail running (in Peachy’s humble opinion).
- Great gear designed specifically for getting the most out of trail running.
- All the great trail races that are easily available to trail running Atlantans of every ability.

If you would prefer to skip the clinic but meet for a carpool or caravan, arrive at BPRC Marietta at 7:30. Of course you may also choose to meet us at Gold Branch at 8:00 for a scenic, fun (and slightly challenging in a few spots) 4 mile run or walk! **Please be sure to bring $3 for the self-serve parking kiosk. If you don't pay, you risk the wrath of the park ranger's $25.00 parking ticket book!**

Whether you choose to attend the clinic before the run or meet us at the trail, please register below, as space is limited for safety reasons.

OK, all you “roadies,” now it’s your turn! There are so many great road races coming up, Peachy thought it was time to share some details with his/her (its?) crew!

Did you run Track or Cross Country back in your high school days? If so, then you might want to recapture those glory days by entering the 30th Annual Walton Raider Chase 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run on Sat. Feb. 7th. This family fun event has a course that winds its way around the Walton High School campus. Proceeds help the school’s Cross Country and Track and Field program. (In-store registration at BPRC Marietta and Kennesaw only.)

Also on Feb. 7th is the First Ever 5K Race For The Cure on the campus of Kennesaw State University. February is Breast Cancer Awareness month & women's basketball teams throughout the country are participating in the WBCA "Pink Zone" campaign to raise awareness through women's athletics. All participants will receive 4 free tickets to the KSU women’s basketball team’s game against the University of North Florida later that afternoon! And, if that isn’t exciting enough, the awards ceremony for the race will take place during half time. (In-store registration at BPRC Marietta and Kennesaw only.)

What’s that you say…”I really want to do a race on Feb. 7th but I'm more of a 10K type.” No worries! Also on the 7th is the 8th Annual Chattahoochee Challenge 10K. This fast, fun Peachtree Road Race qualifier starts and finishes at the Chattahoochee Nature center, and takes you on a scenic course near the river. There’s also a 1 Mile Fun Run for the kids and passes to tour the nature center, making this the perfect day for the entire family! (In-store registration at all 4 BPRC locations.)

Want to try another Peachtree qualifier after the Chatt Challenge? Then consider entering the 29th Annual Charles Harris 10K Run For Leukemia on Feb. 21. Starting at Tucker High School, and finishing at Shamrock Middle School, this race has a fast course that not only serves as a Peachtree qualifier, but also raises money for Leukemia research at Emory University. The first 1,250 pre-registered participants who finish will be guaranteed to receive a Brooks Technical T-shirt, making this race even more exciting. And, should you decide to register via mail or on line, we will have a packet pick up opportunity at BPRC Decatur and Atlanta. Of course, if you register in person, you can pick up your race number then. (In-store registration at all 4 BPRC locations.)

Racing in February continues on the 28th with the Run For The Son 5K, 10K and 1 Mile Fun Run, taking place at Burnt Hickory Baptist Church in Powder Springs. The 10K offers another chance for your Peachtree Road Race qualifier. The proceeds from this family event benefit the Burnt Hickory Student Ministry International Mission Trip. (In-store registration at all 4 BPRC locations.)

Finally we head off road again, and back to the trails on Feb. 28th for the Thrills In The Hills XDuro Half Marathon taking place on the scenic mountain bike trails at Ft. Yargo State Park in Winder, GA. Prepare yourself for a fun, challenging race with beautiful scenery!

Whether you're racing or training on trails or on the road, May Your Best Miles Be Those Covered On Foot!
