Big Peach Running Co.

Ready Set Go!

Where’s Peachy? Our roly-poly friend decided to take a little break over Labor Day and rest up for an exciting fall. With summer winding down, the fall racing season is already cranking up! We are lucky to live in a metropolitan area rich with weekend road (and some trail) races. Big Peach Running Co. is proud to help sponsor many of these events. If you are an avid weekend race junkie, bear with us a moment while Peachy extols the virtues of this fun activity to the uninitiated.

Countless times each week a guest will arrive at BPRC for a new pair of shoes and exclaim, “I only walk, or I’m not a real runner.” Further conversation leads us to learn that the “only walk” guest is actually walking 3-5 miles or more, 4-6 times a week at a pretty fast clip. That’s darn impressive! And, we learn that the non-real runner is also putting in that type of mileage. To all of you Peachy says, “Why not try a road race? They’re not just for elite athletes, but open to walkers with pep in their step and casual runners. Besides, most races give their proceeds to charity, and you usually get a cool T-shirt and some post-race munchies for your efforts.”

So, with Peachy now rolling off of his/her (frankly we’re not sure) soapbox, read on about some spectacular upcoming races! (You might want to grab a glass of water to keep hydrated. This is a long one!)

The Fall Five Miler presented by Big Peach Running Co. and AT&T The Real Yellow Pages takes place on Saturday, October 18, 2008 at 8:00am. This 5 mile race is open to runners and walkers, and is stroller and leashed dog friendly. The race starts at Olde Towne Shopping Center, and finishes at BPRC Marietta. Proceeds from the race will benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and a percentage will also go to the Chattahoochee Nature Center.

Peachy is putting on a really big show for this one! An Asics long sleeve microfiber T-shirt awaits the first 800 participants who register and show up for the race. A pre-race warm up will be provided to get you ready. Then, to help you celebrate crossing the finish line, we will have way too much food and drink. Need more incentive? How about a board-breaking demonstration from the cool folks at Moohan Martial Arts. Still not convinced? We are also honored to bring you author John W. Keddie presenting his book, "Running the Race: Eric Liddell." This is the story of the sporting and spiritual life of Eric Liddell, Scottish 400 Meter Olympic Champion at the 1924 Olympics. Liddell's story was featured in the Oscar winning movie, "Chariots of Fire". Keddie, will show actual footage of the 1924 400 Meter race as part of the book signing, so this should be a great addition to the day.

Entry fee is $20 through October 10th, going up to $25 between the 11th and race day. You can register in person at any BPRC location. If you prefer, download an application and mail it to: Big Peach Running Co, 1062 Johnson Ferry Road, Marietta, GA 30068, or go to Active.com. We are also looking for race volunteers. If all of Peachy’s gentle nudging still hasn’t convinced you to run or walk a race, please consider volunteering your time to help make our event safe and fun for all participants. Sign up here.

Of course, we’re not the only show in town. Check out all the cool races with ongoing in-store registration at BPRC:
