Peachtree Prep Run
With sincere apologies to the late George and Ira Gershwin please read the following to tune of “Summertime” from Porgy and Bess:
Summertime,
And the runin' ain’t easy
Temps are soarin'
And humidity high
Your trainin’ hard
And the miles are buildin’
So you’ll be ready
On the 4th of July!
Summer officially begins Friday June 20 at 7:59pm. Ring in the first full day of summer by joining us for the Peachtree Prep Run Saturday, June 21 at 7:30am. We meet at BPRC’s Brookhaven location for one last training run before the big party on the 4th of July. Our route starts on Peachtree in front of Cherokee Plaza, and heads south to 10th street, turns left, and finishes in front of Piedmont Park. That makes our run 7.1 miles, rather than the 6.1 miles on race day, so you’ll be ready! Now, you’re saying, “but the Peachtree has a new route this year and turns right on 10th instead of left.” You are correct, but since our event is not a race, and roads will be open, we are sticking with the traditional route for safety reasons.
To help make the morning fun, Reebok is bringing Kim Smith, New Zealand native, 4 time NCAA champion, and the winner of this past Saturday’s Steamboat Classic 4 mile race with a finish time of (WOW!) 20 minutes flat! Kim will be our run’s pace leader, but don’t worry; she will not be tearing up the pavement at her race pace! In addition, the great folks from Team Automotive will have a pace vehicle or 2 out there as well. And, to keep you hydrated during the hot run, we will provide water stops along the way. To get you back to the start, be sure to have MARTA breeze card with you. There is no charge for this event, and it is open to runners and walkers of all paces who are able to complete 7.1 miles.

Right To Hike Night Weds. June 25th
Many of you will remember the tragic story of Meredith Emerson. On January 1, 2008 Meredith and her dog Ella went missing while hiking in Blairsville, Georgia. A massive search and rescue operation immediately began during which thousands of people from across the country contributed time, money, and energy to help find her. Sadly, she was found murdered on January 7.
Her family and friends, acquaintances and associates, all remember her with a fondness that is inspirational. To honor her memory they have created Right to Hike, Inc. Please help this cause by dining at any of the 40 Atlanta Area Applebee's locations on Wednesday, June 25th, 2008. Applebee's and Right To Hike have joined forces to help raise money to support the mission of Right To Hike. Print out the coupon on the home page of their website, and take it with you before enjoying a meal at Applebee's. 15% of sales during this day will be donated to Right to Hike’s initiative to raise money for causes close to Meredith’s heart.
Thanks for your help!
Whether running down Peachtree or hiking in the North Georgia Mountains, may your best miles be those covered on foot.
