Big Peach Running Co.

Oh Yeah…We’ve Got Spring Fever!

This beautiful warm day has Peachy rolling around with a major case of spring fever. Even with the forecast for the rest of the week calling for liquid sunshine, our crew will be out playing, how about you?

This Weekend’s Happenings

If you’re training for a spring half or full marathon, or thinking about taking the leap to longer distances, we’ve got a great event for you at BPRC Kennesaw this coming Saturday the 13th at 8:00am. Whether in taper mode for the rapidly approaching ING Georgia half or full, or building mileage for the Nashville Country Music race next month, you will enjoy what we have in store. This event will also prove beneficial to folks just starting out, as we have one of the best authorities on biomechanics and running form around, Kyle O’Day of Continuum Sports. In addition, Brooks Sports will be on hand with the chance for 2 people to win a complimentary entry to the Country Music half or full, and will have other cool give-aways as well. After Kyle’s talk you are welcome to head out for a run or walk through beautiful Kennesaw. We have maps for distances of 3 miles and up. When you get back, we’ll have some light post-run refreshments for you too!

(By the way, in-store registration for ING ends at 8:00pm on Tues. the 9th at all 4 BPRC stores. On-line registration continues until 11:59pm 3/17.)

Have you done your 2010 AJC Peachtree Road Race qualifier yet? Would you like to improve your time before on-line registration begins on March 21? This year, everyone has a shot at being placed in a start corral with runners and walkers of similar pace, so submitting a time is more important than ever! Even if you are new to the 10K scene, submitting a certified race qualifying time will keep you from random placement.

What better way to shine at Peachtree than by running or walking the Silver Comet 10K this coming Saturday?! We’re talking flat, fast and serious fun marking the 12th anniversary of a race that always gets a big crowd. In-store registration continues at all 4 BPRC locations through 8:00pm Tuesday, March 9. Online registration continues until 11:59pm on March 10. You can also sign up race day starting at 6:00am.

Also on Saturday the 13th is the Race To Empower A Bold Community in Kennesaw. Presented by Kennesaw State University Foundation, the Atlanta Beat Women’s Soccer Foundation and the NW GA YWCA, this family fun event offers a 5K, 1 Mile Fun Run, and get this, a 1 Mile Dog Run! Making this event really special will be your opportunity to run with some of the team members of the Beat! (OK, get ready for it… you know how Peachy can’t resist a chance like this…) This race just can’t be beat! In-store registration continues through 8:00pm Tues. the 9th.

Upcoming Happenings

In-store registration is now going on at all BPRC location for the 3rd Annual Water For The World 5K/10K/1 Mile Fun Run/Tot Trot. The #1 cause of death in developing countries is contaminated water. Water for the World Run benefits these countries through the establishment of clean water systems. Taking place in John’s Creek on April 24th, there’s a new and improved course this year, electronic timing, great awards, prizes, food and entertainment…all for a very worthy cause.

Also happening on April 24th is the 19th Annual Take Back The Night 5K & 1 Mile Run/Walk at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, presented by the Dekalb Rape Crisis Center. April is Sexual Assault Awareness month. The main goal of Take Back The Night is to raise awareness, change attitudes and help prevent sexual assault.

If you’re not an early bird, then this is the race for you! The 1 Mile begins at 5 p.m. and the 5K starts at 5:30 p.m. The route takes you through Decatur, Oakhurst, and has an exciting finish on the track at Agnes Scott College.

Wanna try a tri? How about an off-road tri? The Legends Off Road Sprint Triathlon on May 15 is going to be an absolute blast! This inaugural race takes place in Dallas, GA on an 84 acre parcel of private property, and according to race director John Watkins, “The course is AWESOME!” Swim in the lake, then ride on a course that is relatively flat with a couple of stream crossings, and easy jump or 2, and only one climb of consequence. The flat run is half on packed gravel, and half on grass, circling the lake. This sprint distance tri is great for beginners, or anyone looking for something different.

Our loyal readers know that between now and May1, we will always make mention of the upcoming Big Peach 5K Run/Walk. Our 5th anniversary race is going to be bigger and better than ever, as we once again raise funds for the GA Chapter of Team In Training.

Last week we reached out to the walkers, letting them know that we have a 1 hour time limit for our event, making it very walker friendly. This week we want to brag about the colorful, beautiful Nike tech T for the first 1700 registered finishers. Check out the picture on the right hand side of this newsletter, and imagine how great it will look on a dark gray moisture wicking T!
