New Stuff For A New Decade
Welcome to the tens, teens…hmmm… what will the popular culturalists call it? Anything’s better than the “oughts;” No matter the name, we’ve got some great ways to start the new decade.
Let’s kick things off with our first in-store event, this coming Saturday, 8:00am in Kennesaw. We’re celebrating a new race series called “The Time Is Now". These guys have it so well said on their website, that Peachy is going to perform a little plagiarism and paste their brilliant prose right here:
“Helping someone else while you’re helping yourself. It doesn’t get any better!
The veteran racers get 4 unique, fun events. The weekend warriors get a series of goals to work for that runs throughout the year. The newest runner has available to them expert training, nutrition, wellness and fitness experts to help them achieve their goals.” And, by the way, net proceeds from the races will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
The first race in the series, the Resolution Rush 5K & 10K (Peachtree Road Race qualifier), takes place on Feb. 21 in Hickory Flat, GA. Sign up for the first race and receive a free membership to Anytime Fitness up until race day.
Race Director Mark Vescio brings all sorts of goodies to the kick-off including a chance to win free entry to all 4 races, a free membership to Anytime Fitness, a $5.00 discount for any individual race in the series if you sign up at our event, a chance to go for a short (or long) run, and some healthy and delicious munchies from Whole Foods.

Now how about a little weeknight fun as we Chatt Up The Chattahoochee Challenge 10K?! The 9th running of this fast, fun and popular Peachtree qualifier deserves a celebration!. Join Race Director DeAnn Fordham for some wine and cheese at BPRC Marietta on Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 7:00pm. Learn all about the race, the course, and the incredible work the Chattahoochee Nature Center is doing to educate us on ways to keep our magnificent river and its surrounding wildlife healthy. We will also have a discussion on what you can do to be a more “eco-chic” runner, and New Balance (official footwear sponsor of the race) will be on hand to talk about their work for a smaller carbon footprint.
To go with the wine and cheese, we will also raffle off a race entry or 2, have a $5 savings off the entry fee if you sign up at the event, and other give-aways to be sure. If that isn't enough, free admission to the Chatt Nature Center goes to everyone entering the race. And, of course, no BPRC event would be complete without the chance to go for a run. If interested, Matt Booth with New Balance will lead the way at 6:15.

Here’s something new you may want to try in 2010…share your passion for the Pedestrian Active Lifestyle. Figure out a way to gently (but firmly) motivate a family member, co-worker or friend to start a walking or running program this year. Sacrifice one of your weekday workouts by acting as a mentor, and go out at a slow, easy pace for 20 minutes, bringing all your fervor with you. You’ll both feel better!
Another cool (and we mean chilly) new idea for 2010 is to run outside during the winter. If you tend to hibernate during the cold weather, or retreat to the treadmill, consider hitting the trails or the road once in a while. If dressed and prepped properly, you can even survive the crazy cold temperatures that came in with the New Year, and have fun too!
Here’s wishing all your Best and New Miles Be Those Covered On Foot.
