Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez!

The weekend snow has melted away, and we were spared another dose of frozen precip today. If that’s not cause for celebration, nothing is!!

This Week’s News

Let’s start with tomorrow night at BPRC Decatur. It’s not too late to sign up and join us for our 2nd annual Fat Tuesday Extravaganza!! Pick up your Mardi Gras beads as you head out for a short (or not so short) run through beautiful downtown Decatur. When you return, enjoy a delicious bowl of hot jambalaya from Decatur’s own Badda Bing, king cakes sent directly from the mother-land (you know, New Orleans), and of course an adult beverage made from barley, hops and other nutritious grains. (Must be 21 and prove it to wash your meal down with one of these.) And, if you’re a Saint’s fan, we’re still celebrating their Super Bowl victory, so wear your fleur de lis!

Rounding out the week is the Spring Marathon Spectacular at our Decatur store. If you want the chance to learn from one of the best resources in town about good running/walking form, then this is the place to be. We get started at 8:00am with Kyle O’Day of Continuum Sports Solutions. Kyle and his team have over 10 years experience helping athletes run smarter, safer, faster, and better.

After Kyle’s talk, head out for a run or walk around Decatur. We have maps for distances from 2 miles on up. Brooks Sports will also be there with two chances to win a free entry the Nashville Country Music Half or Full Marathon. We’ll have give-aways, and some post-run munchies to round out the morning.

Whether you’re a beginner gearing up for your first sprint distance tri, or looking for an Olympic distance race for a new challenge, you’re sure to find something you’d like to tri with this series! First race up is the Turtle Crawl 5K, Sprint and Olympic on May 15 in beautiful Jekyl Island. These events usually sell out, so don’t delay!

Also added to the list of races you can register for at Big Peach, is the 8th Annual Spring Chicken Run, A Race Against Hunger. You have a choice of a 5K, 1 Mile Fun Run, 1 Mile “Spirit Walk’” and Tot Trot for the 5 and under set. This great event takes place March 27th in Powder Springs, and raises funds for C.A.M.P. – Christian Aid Mission Partnership. If you can’t make it race day, but would like to help fight hunger, you can also register as a “Phantom Runner,” and collect a cool looking T-shirt for your donation.

And Now, The Big News Of The Week…

It’s time for the Big Peach 5K!!! This is our 5th annual Big Peach 5K to be exact! While the race is 5 years old, it celebrates Peachy’s 6th birthday. Yup, that’s right BPRC is turning 6 in May, and we can’t think of a better way to party. Peachy’s so excited that he/she/it practically ran out of his/her/it’s shoes! A fun, fast course starts at the Brookhaven MARTA station, and takes you through some great neighborhoods, finishing with a slight downhill on Peachtree Rd. in front of our store.

As with our previous 4 Big Peach 5K races, the Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) is our presenting sponsor. We are honored to assist in their mission to promote global health.

Nike is also back as the official footwear sponsor of our race, which means a very good looking tech T, awaits the first 1700 registered finishers. In addition, a free entry is yours with a purchase of $75.00 in Nike gear. (You MUST sign up at time of purchase to obtain free entry.) Also on board as a major sponsor once again is AT&T The Real Yellow Pages.

Proceeds from this year’s race (as with previous) go to the Georgia Chapter of Team In Training, the fundraising arm of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Since the inception of this race with your enthusiastic participation, and the help of our sponsors, we’ve raised $38,000 for this wonderful charity.

NEW THIS YEAR! we’ve added the option of electronic ChronoTrack D-Tag timing! If you want your 5K time (run or walk) to be absolutely official, this is the way to go. If you’re a more casual runner or walker, then you may decide this isn’t necessary for you. Race entry is $25.00 with D-Tag timing, and $20.00 without.
Also making this year’s race exiting is our “5 Off For 5” program. Bring us a team of 5 participants or more, and save $5.00 off your entry fee. If registering in person or via mail, be sure to include your team’s name on the race entry. (We will need a separate application for each team member.) If you sign up on line you’ll need a special code. Please send a quick email to kate@bigpeachrunningco.com for that information, or call any BPRC store.

Finally, speaking of registration, that Active.com link is up and running right now. In-store registration will begin at all 4 BPRC locations this Friday, Feb. 19. We’ll see you at the races!!
