How Do You Celebrate The 4th Of July?
Fresh corn on the grill? Swimming in your backyard pool? Feet on the hot pavement? Now we’re talking!!
If you’re one of the 55,000 going out for a stroll down Peachtree Road this coming 4th of July, we’re here to help. All 4 BPRC stores will be open this week from Monday-Friday from 10:00am-8:00pm to help you with any last minute items you may need for that 6.2 mile rolling party! We’ll be at the AJC Peachtree Road Race expo too, so please come say hi to us as we partner with Reebok (official footwear sponsor), Adidas, Brooks, Mizuno & Nike!
We will be closed on the 4th so our staff members can join in the holiday fun. We’ll be back and ready to roll again on Monday, July 6 at 10:00am!

OK, we’ve got the upcoming holiday weekend covered; now the question is…how will you celebrate the rest of the summer? Inquiring Peaches want to know!
Here’s an idea…take it to the streets of Kennesaw on Saturday, July 25th for the 26th anniversary of the Georgia Games Run For Life 5K and 10K. This outstanding event’s motto is: “Join the Georgia State Games as we bring the Olympic Spirit back to Georgia!” And, if that isn’t incentive enough to join, then the fact that all the proceeds benefit the Georgia Sports Foundation's fight against childhood obesity should have you racing over to BPRC Kennesaw or Marietta to register!
The following day, Sunday the 26th presents the opportunity to get off the roads and onto the trails with a little day trip down to Macon for the next in the XTERRA Trail Racing Series. The Pig Trail 10K will take you on some beautiful trails and off the hot pavement for a while. Our friends at XTERRA tell us that the scenery will leave you breathless. (OK the 6.2 miles just might contribute a little to that feeling too!) Register at any Big Peach location for this fun way to “Ditch The City,” and all of the races in the series.

Speaking of trail running (or day hiking for that matter) the next Subaru/Big Peach Trail Run is Sunday, August 2 at Vickery Creek. Yes, it’s a month away, but we want to grab a little of your hard-earned leisure time, and have you come out and play with us! Our last trail adventure had almost 100 of Peachy’s friends out on the trail. More information coming soon as the date draws near. So pencil us in now, and plan to join us in August!

If you really dig our warm summer climate then mark your calendar for Saturday, Aug. 9th and the 4th Annual Dog Days Run with a start line just a few blocks away from BPRC Marietta! The East Cobb Rotary Club does a great job with this fun 5K run/walk, with proceeds benefiting various East Cobb Charities. In-store registration is happening right now at BPRC Marietta and Kennesaw!
Then, closing out the summer season it’s the ever popular U.S. 10K Classic! For the first time ever, you will be able to register at all 4 BPRC stores for this Labor Day extravaganza! There is a weekend long Family Fun Festival to go with the 10K as well as an in-line skate race, a bicycle race, and so much more. Peachy will let you know the minute in-store registration begins!

Wait…what’s that? You want a sneak peak at the fall?! Fantastic idea!! Last week we mentioned the New Big Peach Sizzler 10K (formerly Buckhead Sizzler) on Sept. 26th, and our Fall Five Miler on Oct. 17th. We thought this would be an excellent time to also talk about 3 great half marathons coming this fall. So if you enjoy that 13.1 mile distance, or are toying with the idea to try it, here are some great reasons to build up those summer miles:
Oct 4: The First Annual Locomotive Half Marathon (and 5K) in Kennesaw. Rolling hills to flat tree lined neighborhood streets promise to make this new entry enjoyable for first timers and seasoned half marathoners alike. They even have a technical T with a really cool design for all finishers!
Oct. 31: Trick or Treat – It’s the 9th Annual Silver Comet Half Marathon (and new 2 mile fun run)! This race is really all treat! Starting on a nice wide neighborhood street, the race course then takes you onto the beautiful Silver Comet Trail for a fast, fun event that is also well suited for the first time half marathoner! (Us crusty old veterans enjoy this one too!) A portion of the proceeds go to Cobb County Parks and Recreation Outdoor/Natural Resources Management Programs & other local charities.
Then, on Nov. 8th it’s the 2nd Annual Zooma Women’s Half Marathon (and 5K) starting and finishing at Atlantic Station. Check out Atlanta’s exciting midtown and downtown on foot, the way a city should be seen! Big post race party atmosphere makes this a wonderful way to spend a November morning. A silver necklace for your race medal is also a great motivator!
