Cool Weather = Cool Fun
Fall has fallen! And while technically, fresh peaches are out of season, our Peachy has lots of fresh ways to help you enjoy these beautiful, cool autumn days:
Still haven’t registered for the Fall Five Miler presented by AT&T The Real Yellow Pages and Big Peach Running Co.? Here are a few cool reasons to sign up for our October 18 event right away:
• The registration fee increases from $20 to $25 on Oct. 11.
• Moisture wicking long sleeve Asics T-shirt to first 800 people who sign up. (Not quite there yet.)
• A pair of Feetures! running socks to event finishers (while supplies last.)
• The chance to meet author John W. Keddie as he discusses and autographs his book, “Running The Race: Eric Lidell.” This is the story of the sporting and spiritual life of Eric Liddell, Scottish 400 Meter Olympic Champion at the 1924 Olympics. Liddell's story was featured in the Oscar winning movie, "Chariots of Fire".
• Proceeds benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and the Chattahoochee Nature Center.
• IT WILL BE LOTS OF FUN, is open to runners and walkers, and is stroller and leashed dog friendly.
Come to any BPRC to register, download an application and mail it to our Marietta store, or go to Active.com
Need more coolness? Check out the inaugural Atlanta Boy Choir 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run this coming Saturday the 11th at 9:30am. While in-store registration is now closed, you can still sign up starting at 8:30am race day morning. The race start is located at Pinebloom, the site of Jackson Hill Baptist Church, 1585 Ponce de Leon, Atlanta 30307. There is also a post-race Fall Festival, which includes games, pony rides, face painting, good eats and family fun.
Yet more cool fun: In-store registration continues at all BPRC locations for the 2008 AIDS Walk Atlanta 5K Run at 1:45pm on Sunday, October 19. This race, affiliated with the AIDS Walk, is the largest AIDS related fundraising event in the southeastern U.S. with proceeds helping organizations throughout the metro-Atlanta area. These organizations provide essential programs and services to men, women and children who are infected or affected by HIV/AIDS. The race starts at the Charles Allen Gate at 10th Street and Piedmont Park.
One of the coolest neighborhoods in Atlanta is Cabbagetown. This historic section of downtown is located around the old Fulton Cotton and Bag Mill. Now home to artists, musicians and a wonderful mix of families and singles, this little gem packs a huge presence in just 6 city blocks. On Saturday, Nov. 8th, check out the 3rd Annual Romp & Stomp 5K at 8:00am. This awesome run/walk is just a small part of a whole day of activity known as the Chomp & Stomp. After you burn some calories at the 5K, stick around for the Chili Cookoff and Bluegrass Festival. BPRC offers in-store registration for the 5K at our Decatur and Atlanta locations only.
Some important information: the Silver Comet Half Marathon is now sold out at 1700+. Sorry folks, there is no more in-store or on-line registration available. Please don’t try to bribe Peachy with his/her favorite foods, as registration is officially closed. Race Director Dana Greene wanted us to thank all of you for signing up.
Finally, save the date for some upcoming cool events: Saturday, November 1 is our official kickoff to the ING Georgia Marathon and Half Marathon training season. We will get things rolling with a clinic and group run at our Decatur store. Then, Sunday, November 2 is the final Big Peach/Subaru Trail Run for 2008. We will meet at the incredible Sweetwater Creek State Park. Details for this Peachy weekend coming soon.
Enjoy all this wonderful, (you guessed it) cool season has to offer while Your Best Miles are Those Covered on Foot!
