Fall 5 Miler Recap

Thanks to the 640 registered participants, and 548 finishers who braved some wickedly cold, windy conditions at our Fall 5 Miler this past Saturday! Our men's overall winner Kevin Clary finished in a smokin' hot 25:22. Women's overall winner Janet Cherobon's cool style brought her in at 27:49. Men's masters overall winner, Paul Deaton was in hot pursuit of Janet, also finishing in 27:49, and women's masters overall winner Dana Henry froze out her competition in 34:24. Congratulations to the winners and all the finishers of the race! Complete results are posted here, and race photos with free downloads can be found here.

Your participation along with our corporate sponsors helped us donate $11,500 to the Georgia chapter of the MDA, and the Chattahoochee Nature Center. That really gives us a warm fuzzy feeling, and we can't thank you enough!
Another cool fact about the race is that we had more than enough long sleeve Asics Tech T's so everyone who showed up at the race, even if they signed up on line received one. In fact, we ended up with more than anticipated, and would like to offer the remaining shirts to you for $15.00. That's half the $30.00 retail price, and will help us raise more money for MDA. A limited supply will be available at all 4 stores, by Thursday. Once they're gone we can't get anymore.

New Balance/Zooma Girl's Night Out

Our Thursday night training runs to help you prep for the Zooma Women's Half Marathon and 5K continue this week with a hot tasty treat. As always, we have groups meeting at both BPRC Decatur and Atlanta at 6:30. Sponsored by New Balance, these runs/walks are open to men and women looking for training partners, even if they have not signed up for the Zooma races.

Our Atlanta location has teamed up with St. Jude Heroes, the named charity partner. To thank you for your participation, or to perhaps entice you to run for a cause, there will be a delicious post-run pizza party at Elwood's right next door to Big Peach. Learn about the incredible work St. Jude's is doing to help children while you warm up or cool down after your run. (With our weather, you just never know!) Please RSVP to r with St. Jude Heroes so she knows how much food to order.

Saturday Morning Group Run

Yup it's that time again…the 3rd Saturday of the month can mean only one thing…Decatur group run! In honor of the shorter days and colder temps, and the fact that Peachy likes to sleep late, we've moved the start time to 9:00am. And, although Halloween is not until the following Saturday, we strongly encourage you to run in costume. Don't know what tricks and/or treats we'll have in store, but we do know you'll have a great time running through downtown Decatur! As with all of our in-store group runs, this event is free of charge, and open to runners and walkers of all abilities.

BPRC/Subaru Trail Run

This is it, the final installment of our 2009 trail running series. We're heading to Sweetwater Creek State Park for an adventure that is sure to give you the chills! Due to the recent heavy rains, portions of our usual route are off limits. That didn't stop us - we came up with another run, about 4 miles in distance that is not for the faint hearted. This will be the most technical trail run/hike we've put together to date! OK, don't get overheated with panic, we're not asking you to climb hand over hand up a sheer rock wall, or go butt on the ground crab-crawling down the side of a mountain. You will be challenged with some steep, long climbs and a small stream crossing as you reach a spot we've nicknamed the Top Of The World! We look forward to introducing you to the rugged beauty that is Sweetwater Creek State Park.

The trail head is located near Factory Shoals Elementary School, and they are graciously allowing us to use their parking lot, so you don't have to worry about fees.

Directions to the Middle School just down the street are offered as follows:
Take Interstate 20 west toward Birmingham. Take exit 41, the Lee Road/Lithia Springs exit. Turn left and cross over the interstate. Stay on Lee Road, traveling to the T- intersection with Hwy. 92 or Fairburn (about three miles). Turn left on Fairburn. Shoals School Road is the second left, approximately one mile from the intersection of Fairburn and Lee Road. 3046 Fairburn Road, Douglasville, GA 30135.

When: Sunday, Oct. 25 at 8:00am

This is not a race, is free of charge and open to runners and walkers confident in their ability to negotiate the route as described. Want to learn more about trail running shoes? Check out our tutorial.
