Sure, anyone could come up with the headline "March Madness" this time of year, and that certainly would fit Peachy News this week.  But, we like to March to our own beat.  We're ringing in St. Paddy's day with all sorts of Peachy goodness.  Lots to cover, so prop up your feet, grab a healthy snack, and your favorite hydration libation, and read on...

This Weekend's Races
In-store registration is officially closed for Saturday's Fallen Heroes of GA 5K/10K at Lake Lanier Islands. Online registration closes 11:59pm March 13, and there is no race day registration.  We are offering packet pickup at our Suwanee store on Friday, March 16 from 11:00am-7:00pm, and that will be your chance for a last minute sign up for the race.  (Race Director Steve tells us that there will be no T-shirt if you sign up on Fri.)  This race honors and remembers Georgia's fallen soldiers who have been killed in the Iraq and Afghan Wars.  All race proceeds benefit charities created in memory of a fallen Georgia soldier.

In-store registration is also now closed for Dirty Spokes Production's Runnin' The Rocks 6.2 and 3.1 mile trail race, taking place Saturday the 17th as well.   The next race in the series is the Olde Rope Mill 6.5/3.1 miler in Woodstock on April 7.  From Race Director Tim, "The terrain is rolling hills, single track, double track along with technical sections (roots and rocks) The course is beautiful and offers something for every runner truly wishing to 'ditch the city'. "  Registration for this race, and the rest in the series is going on at all BPRC locations.

If you're in the market for new trail shoes, we offer a free race entry to any Dirty Spokes race with the purchase of Montrail shoes.  Be sure to say hi to the BPRC/Montrail Ambassador on race day.

Peachy Happenings

Back in December, we brought you "A Treat For Your Feet " in our Marietta store.  Everyone really enjoyed the presentation, and we've had quite a few requests to bring that same clinic to the east side of town.  So...

We've done quite a few foot related injury prevention clinics at BPRC over the years, discussing glamorous topics like shoes, socks, orthotics, toenails, bunions, and blisters.  We've also talked about cross training exercises for runners, but always seem to stop just above the feet.  Your feet take a pounding when you run, and deserve some special treatment.  Sandi Goldring of Advanced Movement Training along with his sidekick I-gor (aka Mr. Bones) is bringing his special routine of exercises for the feet that come with an amazing side effect...your hips, knees, and back will feel a whole lot better too!  Considering the big shift to minimal running shoes, this clinic is especially important, and will prove helpful no matter what type of footwear you prefer.  Dress comfortably, as you will be sitting on the floor with shoes and socks off, and foot in hand.  You might feel a little silly during the class, but you'll feel great afterwards!  And, if your happy feet, hips, knees, and back want to go for a run, our friends from So. Dekalb Striders will be hosting a run at 9:00am.

Also on March 24 at 8:00am, we're bringing another interesting clinic to our Marietta store.  We're calling it "Fitness For The Over 40 Female."  Rami Odeh of Formwell Fitness is bringing an "exercise prescription" to help our masters aged runners stay healthy and fit.  He will discuss how to properly integrate strength training, cardio (you know...running), and flexibility training into a comprehensive program.  Rami will debunk the most common myths about all 3 categories, to help you sort fact from fiction.  You will walk away with a good understanding of a smart, healthy program to keep you going strong way past your 40's, 50's, 60's.... By the way, if you're a male under or over 40, or a female under 40, you will also find this a worthwhile way to spend your time, and we won't card you at the door!  Of course, no BPRC clinic would be complete without the chance to go out for a run or walk. We have route maps available for distances from 3-13 miles.

New Race News
In store registration is now taking place at BPRC Atlanta and Decatur for The 3nd Annual Run Before You Crawl 5k and Pub Crawl.  Picture yourself rolling out of bed on Saturday, April 14th, and heading to one of our coolest in-town neighborhoods, East Atlanta.  Start your 5K at 9:00am, and then replace those lost carbs at the pub crawl stating at 10:30.  The Race Director assures us it's close enough to noon somewhere in the world! Since most people burn 300-400 calories during a 5K (that same crazy RD claims 500 on his website), why not replenish with some whole grain brew?  The race begins and ends in beautiful Brownwood Park.  In between you will meander through the East Atlanta Business District. Proceeds benefit East Atlanta Village, making it a safe place to shop, dine, and drink.

The beer theme continues...In-store registration is now underway at all BPRC locations for the Sweetwater 420 Fest 5K on April 21 in Candler Park, another of our beautiful in-town neighborhoods.  The race is just a small piece of an entire weekend of fun that includes live music, an artist festival, comedy shows, an Earth Day celebration related scavenger hunt, and since it is sponsored by Sweetwater, ale tasting! Your race entry gets you some really nice SWAG: an environmentally sustainable finisher's T-shirt, 1 free beer, and wristband for whole festival weekend ($5 value). Proceeds benefit the Candler Park Neighborhood Organization.
